What is Obamacare? Who qualifies and how to sign upThe plain answer, who can buy a plan, and how to sign up.BasicsNew and updated for 2027
Open enrollment for 2027 coverage starts November 1, and a lot moved since last year. The extra tax credit help that ran from 2021 through 2025 has ended, so households above 4 times the poverty level are back to paying full price. Out-of-pocket limits went up, some insurers left, and Medicaid work rules for many adults are set to begin in 2027. What changed for 2027 lists each change with its source, and signing up and deadlines gathers the dates in one place.
We rewrote several guides this fall. Health insurance in Indiana now covers the four insurers selling 2027 plans there, the Healthy Indiana Plan and its POWER accounts, and the HIP work rules that start in January. HSA and high-deductible plans has the 2027 contribution limits, and the FSA guide explains how a flexible spending account differs from an HSA. For families thinking past health coverage, term vs whole life insurance compares the two main kinds of life insurance.
