New Jersey runs its own marketplace
New Jersey residents buy Marketplace plans through Get Covered New Jersey, the state’s own marketplace, not HealthCare.gov. The plans follow the same federal rules, and the account, the website and the dates are New Jersey’s.

The dates for 2027
New Jersey has announced open enrollment for 2027 from November 1, 2026 through January 31, 2027, longer than the federal window. Coverage start dates depend on when you enroll; for 2026 coverage, the deadline for a January 1 start was December 31.
These are New Jersey’s announced dates; a federal rule change could still move the end date, and we recheck it on December 1.
Losing other coverage, moving or a change in your household can open a special enrollment window outside those dates.23

Two layers of help paying
The federal tax credit works the same way as in other states: up to 4 times the poverty level, $109,280 a year for a family of three.
On top of it, New Jersey Health Plan Savings is state help for eligible households with income up to 600% of the poverty level, which is $163,920 for a family of three. That reaches some families the federal credit doesn’t.
Adults under 138% of the poverty level can qualify for NJ FamilyCare, New Jersey’s Medicaid, and children qualify at much higher incomes.245
New in 2027: NJ FamilyCare work rules
Who it affects: NJ FamilyCare adults aged 19 to 64 on the expansion plan.
From January 1, 2027, many adults aged 19 to 64 on NJ FamilyCare’s expansion plan need to work, volunteer or go to school to keep their coverage, unless their health, family or life circumstances exempt them. Most of them will also renew every six months instead of every year.6
What to do: Watch for NJ FamilyCare notices, and call us if your coverage is at risk.
New Jersey still requires coverage
Who it affects: New Jersey residents who file a state tax return.
The federal penalty is $0, but New Jersey has its own requirement. If you and your tax household go without qualifying coverage and don’t have an exemption, you owe a Shared Responsibility Payment on your NJ-1040. For tax year 2025 it started at $695 for one person.7
Which insurers sell plans
New Jersey’s 2027 plans and prices are set by the state before open enrollment opens on November 1, and the choices depend on your county.2
What to do: Send us your ZIP code, your doctors and your prescriptions. We check which plans in your county include them.
