Short-term health insurance

Temporary coverage that bridges a gap between other plans, for example between jobs or while you wait for a new plan to start. Quick to begin, limited by design, so the trade-offs matter.

For example between jobs, or while a new plan waits to start. How long it lasts depends on your state.

Losing job coverage usually opens a 60-day window to join a Marketplace plan, which is often the better answer.

What you should know before you choose. We would rather you hear it from us now.

Not sold in Illinois

Illinois law (HB 2499) bans new or renewed short-term plans for Illinois residents from January 1, 2025. In our other states, what is available depends on state law.

Not ACA-compliant

Short-term plans skip protections that Marketplace plans must include. It is not the same as an Obamacare plan.

Pre-existing conditions usually not covered

Care for something you already had is commonly excluded. If that matters to you, look at a Marketplace or private plan.

Big gaps in benefits

Routine care, maternity, mental health and prescriptions are often not covered, and the plan can cap what it pays.

Obamacare Hotline and/or Medicare Po Polsku are private companies not affiliated with any local, state, or federal government agency.

Supplementals work alongside your health plan and do not replace it. Hospital indemnity and critical illness policies are not health insurance coverage. Costs depend on your age and plan; we go through them in your free consultation.

Questions people ask

Is a short-term plan the same as an Obamacare plan?

No. A short-term plan is not ACA-compliant and does not carry the same protections. Marketplace plans cover pre-existing conditions and essential benefits; short-term plans are limited, temporary coverage.

What happens if I get sick with something I already had?

Care for a pre-existing condition is usually excluded on a short-term plan. If that is a concern, a Marketplace or private plan is likely the safer choice, and we can compare them with you.
